In September of 1982 "I'm So Excited" was released as a single and appeared on the group's "So Excited" album. The song written by Anita Pointer, June Pointer, Ruth Pointer and Trevor Lawrence reached #30 on
Billboard's Hot 100 Chart. The energetic
video was directed by choreographer, Kenny Ortega and featured the sisters getting ready for a night on the town. Unhappy with the chart results, the sisters convinced their producer to add it to the second pressing of their 1983
RIAA certified multi-Platinum album, "Break Out". The song was re-released in 1984 and climbed all the way to #9 on
Billboard's Hot 100 Chart.
The song has been featured in several movies, including
Summer Lovers, National Lampoons Vacation, Working Girl and The Nutty Professor, just to name a few.
Billboard named the song #23 on their list of "100 Greatest Girl Group Songs Of All Time" and it's been included in
RIAA and
National Endowment for the Arts project "Songs of the Century", a list intended to promote a better understanding of America's musical and cultural heritage. "I'm So Excited" has been streamed over 370 million times on Spotify and has become an anthem for the sisters that is instantly recognizable.
